Frequently Asked Questions

We’re so glad you want to find out more about First Presbyterian Church of Brandon. Plan your visit!

What should I expect when I walk in the front door on Sunday as a visitor?       You can expect to be greeted warmly.  An usher can give you a first time guest packet, help you find your way around, and answer any questions. Our bulletin is online to be eco-friendly.

What worship experiences do you offer on Sundays?     At 9:30am we come together as the Body of Christ in praise and thanksgiving. You can also worhsip on our FaceBook page.

What is the “Session”?     This is the governing body of a Presbyterian Church, comprised of members of the church.  Session members, also called “Elders”, are responsible for the leadership and operation of the church.  They are a valuable resource for information about our programs.

Will I be expected to join?     You are welcome to worship in our community of faith. Membership is not required, and First Presbyterian Church can be your “church home” without joining.  The natural progression of becoming involved at FPC is often to become a member.  Membership allows you to vote on important matters of our church’s operation.

What about tithing and donations?  Will I be asked for money?     An offering is collected during worship services.  Anything you choose to offer should be done with a joyful heart in response to God’s calling.  Offerings support the operation of the church facility, as well as many outreach and mission projects both locally and internationally.  It is not a requirement to give.

Do you offer childcare?     Yes!  First Presbyterian has a nursery for infants and toddlers!  It is clean, safe, well-equipped, and staffed by qualified caregivers.  Some parents choose to bring their children to worship.  We provide age-appropriate children’s bulletins for 3 through 10 year olds. Children 5 and under may elect to leave worship after the “children’s time” and attend Preschool Praise, where they will learn more about worship in an age appropriate environment.

Is there a place for my teenager?     Yes indeed!  Our youth group for middle and high schoolers meets weekly, and participates in service projects throughout the year, and mission trips.

What about Sunday School?      There are a variety of Christian Education opportunities available for all age groups, from our youngest to our eldest disciples!

How can I get involved?     There are many ways to participate in the life of the church. Events are listed in the bulletin and newsletter.  We offer groups for many purposes such as marriage enrichment, bible study, parenting skills, youth ministry, etc.  One of our largest ministries is Mission and Outreach which provides opportunities to serve those in need. You can take our talents survey to find out more and get plugged in.

I am in need of immediate spiritual or pastoral guidance.  What should I do?     Call the church office, ask an usher, or speak with a pastor.  You may be put in contact with a Stephen Minister who will provide you with one-on-one Christian care.

Music??     Our music program is comprehensive and offers varied opportunities for you. Our Chancel Choir sings weekly at the traditional worship service.  The Praise Band involves many instrumentalists and singers (guitars, drums, flutes, violins, trumpets… you name it!)  We have an adult Handbell Choir.  Children may sing or play chimes, and youth may join our Sign Choir, which offers praise through sign language.

Hearing Assistance? We want you to be able to hear the message. We are a Hearing Loop facility. To receive the signal, hearing aids or implants must contain a manual Telecoil (T-coil), also known as a manual telephone setting.
